I have played roughly 12 games on this system now. It looks fantastic. The cell engine is so smooth, I dont think I have ever seen it jerk or tear the video. I am really in awe of games like Little Big Planet, Uncharted 1, and Ghostbusters to name a few. They look just so beautiful. Blue Ray Disc playback: The ability to play BD movies is really a plus. If you know some of my earlier reviews of a couple of years ago you would see that I attempted to own a Toshiba HD DVD player. That was a literal nightmare to own. Since getting the PS3 Console I have watched about 5 BD DVD’s and not one has skipped or locked up. I realize that this is in effect a computer and that may be why it plays “software” such as a BD disc better but whatever it is it plays 1080i and 1080p just beautifully. I am using HDMI of course. Noise: I have read some of the reviews that mention how loud it is. I cant say that I agree wholly. It is not silent by any means but my Tivo is actually louder when it is recording 2 shows. If the room is completely silent then yes, you can hear it running, but generally it cannot be heard over the TV when it is being used. Buttons: I like the new buttons. A friend has the PS3 Console Fat and its lack of real buttons can be a pain. This one gives you a solid click when turning it off and on. Some tips: If you are just getting into the HD video gaming systems with the PS3 Console Slim and do not have a small fortune, I recommend a video game rental place. That way you can play games and not have to own them when you finish them. If you really LOVE it then you can purchase that particular game. Also there are full demo’s available for just about every PS3 Console game out there that you can download and install via the PS3 Console game menu. I have tried a TON of games this way and it gave me some ideas of the ones I would like to rent, and its free. Also I recommend connecting this to your WIRED network. It does have wireless but downloading several GB of data via the air takes a while. It uses a 10 base T Cat5 Ethernet connection. The Playstation 3 is the best games console that you can buy but the original console had quite a few problems and was also quite bulky and so now we have the slim PS3 which corrects these issues and is also smaller, quieter and uses less power. So if you are thinking of buying a Playstation 3 console then you should definitely go for the new Slim version as it is much more reliable and also has a better design.
The slim PS3 is available in 120GB and 250GB models and so you have a choice of the amount of space that you would like. The 120GB PS3 is the most popular as it is cheaper and still offers a large amount of storage space, if you like to store movies and whole games on the hard drive then you should probably buy the 250GB PS3 though as this will offer that extra space that you are likely to need.
The PS3 is an amazing games console as it is very powerful and also has lots of very cool features. It uses a ‘Cell’ processor from IBM and a video processor from Nvidia and so is 40 times more powerful than the PS2 and can do a mind boggling two trillion calculations per second. The Nvidia graphics processor also means that the PS3 has amazing graphics and the Slim PS3 uses the full HD HDMI connection and so you get a pure, uncompressed digital image sent to your full HD TV. And the sound is also very impressive on the Slim Playstation 3 as it outputs Dolby Digital surround sound and can also support 7.1 channels if you have that many speakers.
The features of the slim PS3 are also very impressive. You can play online for free which is great and you can also use other online services such as chat, web browsing and even viewing online content from services such as the BBC iPlayer. But it is the online game play that most players will love as there is nothing better than having a good game online with lots of players from around the world, be that a sports game, a war game or a strategy game.
One other very impressive feature of the Slim PS3 is that it has a Blu Ray player included and so you do not need to buy another Blu Ray player if you buy a slim PS3. The picture quality from the PS3 when watching a Blu Ray Disc is amazing and looks far better than the standard DVD and so this is a great reason to buy a slim PS3 as it also offers you a fully featured Blu Ray player and access to full HD movies.
So if you buying a new Slim PS3 then it is very important that you have an HD ready TV and preferably a full HD TV as the picture quality will be immense in full HD on a full HD television. A home cinema system will also add to the enjoyment as the Dolby Digital sound has to be enjoyed with a proper home cinema system to be appreciated and with this setup you will have an amazing time playing the Slim PS3.

I previously owned a 40GB PS3 Console and decided to upgrade to the new PS3 Console Slim. Here is my experience: PROS – a great Blu-ray player that is updated frequently by Sony ( firmware updates allow this player to evolve over time!) – ability to rent/stream movies from my couch through PSN is great! No subscription required.( this was also present in the older models, just one that I love!) – obviously the SLIM is lighter, smaller, and more energy efficient. (more efficient was a huge draw for me) – much quieter than my 40GB PS3 Console! (especially during blu-ray playback and long game play!) – PS3 Console Slim has ability to bitstream Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA audio( my receiver can now display TrueHD audio properly!) UPGRADE PROCESS – overall very easy and smooth process(took about an hour to backup and restore my data) – ensure you de-Authorize your old PS3 Console before trading it in! PS3 Console will prompt you about this when formatting old PS3 Console. – However, on your new PS3 Console slim, you will need to download ALL of your PSN content again! This will take some time, depending upon the amount of content you have bought and downloaded. (this includes your PSN games, expansion packs, and all your Rock Band or GH songs!) – PLEASE NOTE: not ALL of my save game data transfered over! Apparently this is a well documented problem, that some games lock your save data to one console only! This was very disappointing as I lost all of my progress in games like Rock Band and Killzone! I am hoping these can be fixed with enough user complaints. Overall, the same great PS3 Console experience! Easy upgrade process with a few gotchas to be aware of but this in no way takes away from the amount of value you get with this new PS3 Console!

PS3 Console – Cool as a Cucumber

There is not much more (if at all) to add to what “Aragorn” wrote in his review. Just wanted to comment on the issue of the temperature of the unit. After playing online for about 3 hours straight, the unit’s exhaust temperature is still less than 95 deg F. My PS3 Console is in my media cabinet but the back of it faces a cut out so the exhaust is not hindered. Also, I leave the front of the cabinet open when it is in use. Love the unit. It paired immediately with my Motorola H350 headset and off I went. It is really a remarkable machine. My wife immediately commented on how good the graphics look and the true social networking application that is Playstation Home. I think I will get a wireless keyboard and mouse for it soon just to complete the package. It would be cool if FPS could use the keyboard and mouse rather than the controller to play but that is not a deal breaker for me. For all who decide to purchase this amazing bit of computing genius, enjoy!
